Damon Dash, Mos Def, Ski Beatz Sued Over “24 Hour

Hip-Hop mogul Damon Dash, rapper Mos Def and producer Ski Beatz are being sued by rap/funk/soul label TufAmerica, over a compilation that was released last year.

TufAmerica filed a lawsuit against Damon Dash, Dante Smith (Mos Def) and David Willis (Ski Beatz) in the United States District Court, Southern District of New York, on Wednesday (October 12).
The lawsuit claims Mos Def illegally sampled the songs “Hook & Sling Part 1” and “Hook & Sling Part 2,” illegally.
The sample was used in the track titled “24 Hour Karate School” and the accompanying video for the single, which was given away at the 24hrkarateschool.com website.
The lawsuit claims that the 24 Hour Karate School recordings were made available for download without the proper permission.
TufAmerica is seeking, compensatory and punitive damages, in addition to an injunction barring any further distribution of the 24 Hour Karate School mixtape.

T.I. has inked a deal with a new management group

Recently being released from prison and working to get his career going in the right direction after a few set-backs, T.I. has inked a deal with a new management company to help guide his career.

According to Billboard , Tip has signed with management company Hip-Hop Since 1978, that also manages high profile acts such as Lil Wayne, Drake, and Kanye West.

T.I. says the change to the new management team comes from his outstanding relationship with Gee Roberson:

“Gee’s always been a big part of our operation just not in the capacity of manager. [From] the executive producer standpoint and A&R standpoint, he made gigantic contributions to probably the past three or four T.I. albums, but he’s assumed a large responsibility over at Geffen so that kind of took a big part of my team away. When [Jason Geter] and I both agreed that we would be considering expanding the management team, and then sat down and talked about possible candidates, he was definitely one of the first people that came up.”

Tip says he still will be working with current manager Jason Geter, as he says:

“Of course you also have Grand Hustle management – Jason still maintains his position. You have Gee and [Hip Hop Since] ’78 who come in with their expertise in several areas, who works alongside [Jason]. And then you got Category 5, Brian Sher [founder of Category 5 Entertainment, formerly of ICM], who’s there from the film and television area. I’ve got different pieces of management who have extreme levels of expertise in their areas… We feel that’s the best way to have appropriate execution and to take advantage of all the opportunities that are ever present in the marketplace for me.”

The Atlanta rapper will release a new book titled “Power and Beauty” next week on October 18th, and he also recently released his new single “Flexin” which is produced by Big K.R.I.T and also features K.R.I.T on the hook which will appear on his forthcoming album that is still untitled as of this time.

Drug Charges Against Wiz Khalifa Dropped

Drug charges stemming from the East Carolina University arrest of Pittsburgh, PA rapper Wiz Khalifa were dropped earlier this week.

The rapper, who performed at East Carolina University in November of last year, was cleared of the charges, due to errors at the time of his arrest.

The rapper, born Cameron Jibril Tomaz was charged for allegedly trafficking marijuana, maintaining a place for sale for marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nine other were also booked but despite the charges, the marijuana seized on the bus did not exceed the 10-pound district threshold for trafficking charges.

Three of the men admitted that the marijuana was theirs and pleaded guilty during an August 11th hearing , for misdemeanor possession.

Each of the three paid a $1,000 fine and court fees.

T.I. To Be Held Until End of September

T.I.'s choice of transportation from a Forrest City, Arkansas prison has cost him his freedom until the end of September.

T.I. was released from prison last Wednesday (August 31st), after an 11 month sentence for violating the terms of his probation, after he was caught with ecstasy, in September of 2010.

The rapper, born Clifford Harris, took a luxury motor coach filled with his entourage from the Arkansas prison facility, to a halfway house in Atlanta, where he was due to check in.

His high-profile mode of transportation to the halfway house angered authorities, who sent him back to federal prison in Atlanta, where he is due to be released September 29th, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

T.I.'s attorney Steve Sadow told the Associated Press that authorities have yet to send a formal notice explaining how the trip on the motor coach was in violation of any rule or law.

According to Sadow, as well as T.I.'s wife Tomeka “Tiny” Cottle, the rapper boarded the bus in full view of prison authorities.

"T.I. got on a private bus in the prison's parking area in full view of BOP employees. Indeed, he was actually escorted to the bus by a prison guard," Sadow said.

Says Lil Boosie Paid Him $15G's To Kill Rapper

Prosecutors have accused rapper Lil Boosie of paying $15,000 to have rival rapper Christopher “Nussie” Jackson murdered.

Prosecutors played a videotaped statement from Michael “Marlo Mike” Louding in court this week.

Louding confessed to detectives that Lil Boosie wanted Nussie killed, after the rapper was allegedly disrespectful to one of Lil Boosie's associates during an altercation.

According to The Advocate, Lil Boosie hired Louding and another associated named Michael “Ghost” Judson to murder Nussie, as well as another man named Terry Boyd.

Only Michael Louding is on trial for the murder of Christopher “Nussie" Jackson, because Judson is dead.

Louding's trial for murdering Nussie is just the start, as he has been charged with five other murders between 2009 and 2010.

Rapper Lil Boosie, born Torrence Hatch, is also charged with first-degree murder in one of the killings.

Prosecutors claim to have evidence that Lil Boosie hired Louding to shoot a man named Terry Boyd in October of 2009.

Lil Boosie, 28, was not charged in the death of Christopher “Nussie” Jackson, because he did not have direct contact with Michael Louding prior to Nussie's murder.

Earlier this week, Lil Boosie was accused of attempting to smuggle drugs into a second state prison in Louisiana.

The rapper was indicted for trying to smuggle codeine into Angola State Prison, as well as the Dixon Correctional Institute at Jackson, where he was previously incarcerated, while serving a 10-year sentence for possession of marijuana.

Prosecutors are still debating if they are going to seek the death penalty against Lil Boosie.

Screwed Up Records & Tapes Store Facing Eviction

Screwed Up Records and Tapes, the iconic record store in Houston, Texas that helped start a Hip-Hop revolution from a production standpoint, is in danger of being evicted from its current location.

The Houston Press reports that the record store DJ Screw founded is being evicted, so that the current owner of the building can expand his dental practice.

The owners of Screwed Up Records and Tapes offered their landlord $100,000 to purchase the tiny building, but their offer was rebuffed.

Screwed Up Records and Tapes was founded and launched by DJ Screw in 1998 to sell his unique style of mixtapes, which introduced the world to the “chopped and screwed” style of production.

Additionally, the “Screwed Up Click,” consisted of Houston rappers like Lil Flip, Z–Ro, Trae the Truth, Lil' Keke, Fat Pat, Big Hawk, Big Pokey, Botany Boyz, Big Moe, UGK and others.

Tragically DJ Screw, born Robert Earl Davis Jr., died from a heart attack from a codeine overdose on November 16th, 2000.

Rapper Supa Sport Busted For Running Cocaine Ring

A rapper in New Jersey who recorded with artists like Meek Mill, Killer Mike and Atlanta rapper Alley Boy was indicted by the FBI last week, for running a drug ring that sold heroin, crack cocaine and marijuana.

Rapper Supa Sport, born Carl Barnett, was indicted with 14 other people on drug distribution conspiracy charges last week by the DEA.

According to US Attorney Paul Fishman, the group ran their drug ring out of a used an auto body shop called The Motor City Car Club in Mooresville, New Jersey.

According to the 77–page indictment, Supa Sport was more than just a rapper. Federal prosecutors claim Supa Sport headed up a drug gang known as "The Detroit Boyz.”

According to the federal indictment, members of The Detroit Boyz would travel as far as Georgia, to obtain cocaine base and heroin to sell and distribute throughout the Trenton, New Jersey area.

Ten of the defendants in the case were rounded up earlier this month, as part of a coordinated operation undertaken by local, state and federal authorities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Each of the defendants faces a maximum of 40 years in prison and a $5 million fine.

As a rapper, Supa Sport recorded with a number of nationally known artists. His most recent track was with Killer Mike titled "Days Like This."

On the track, Supa Sport boasts about his drug dealing activities, while showcasing a number of luxury vehicles in the video.

The track with Meek Mill, who is an artist on Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group, is titled "Money" and is taken from Supa Sport's mixtape titled Life in the Fastlane.

'Tupac' Producers Acquire The Rights To 'B.M.F.

The rise and fall of the Black Mafia Family (B.M.F.) will be chronicled in an upcoming movie it was announced today (June 23rd), by producers LT Hutton and David Robinson.

Program Pictures has acquired the motion picture rights to the story of Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and his brother Terry “Southwest-T” Flenory, who headed up the drug dealing organization known as the Black Mafia Family.

Prosecutors accused the Flenory brothers of overseeing a drug empire that raked in over $270 million from the late 1980s until October of 2005, when they were sentenced to 30 years in prison each, for their role in the drug operation.

LT Hutton and David Robinson are the producers behind the upcoming biopic "Tupac," which is slated to begin production later this year.

The Flenory brothers and hundreds of associates in over 10 states, were prosecuted for running the large scale cocaine and money laundering operation.

B.M.F. was active in Detroit, Columbus, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, St. Louis, Greenville and Louisville, Kentucky.

The brothers allegedly masterminded a ring that used hidden compartments and luxury vehicles in stretched limousines to transport drugs and money, while laundering the proceeds through outrageous parties, a Hip-Hop label, a luxury car business, magazines and other businesses.
In total, the DEA seized over 700 kilograms of cocaine, almost $10 million in cash and $5.7 million in assets when members were rounded up in October of 2005.

Big Meech discussed the rise of B.M.F. in an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com from prison in December of 2010.
