DMX Arrested For Violation of Probation

Authorities in Arizona say rapper DMX has been arrested for allegedly violating his probation by using drugs.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, had served about half of his 18-month supervised probation when he was booked Tuesday night into the downtown Phoenix jail. The rapper was released from jail in May after serving a 90-day sentence for felony convictions including cruelty to animals, theft and two drug counts.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says his deputies have arrested Simmons five times now, including an August 2007 raid on the rapper's north Phoenix home where they found 12 neglected dogs, three buried dogs, drugs and a cache of weapons.

Simmons pleaded guilty in late December to cruelty to animals, theft and two drug counts. In 2008, Simmons was arrested for speeding on a Phoenix freeway and allegedly going to a Scottsdale clinic and giving a false name to receive care with the intent of not paying.

Waka Flocka Gets Into Brawl With Jeexy Affiliates

The public truce brokered last December between Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane appears to be compromised following a violent altercation between their affiliates in downtown Atlanta Thursdy (March 4).

The brawl began around 4PM outside of the Walter’s Clothing Store in downtown Atlanta, ironically the location where Jeezy and Gucci Mane first met several years ago.

According to Patrick Morrison, an eyewitness and Walter’s Clothing employee, the animosity was renewed when Waka Flocka’s entourage entered the store and came face to face with Slick Pulla and other Young Jeezy affiliates.

“They just started going at it,” Morrison told the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

In the midst of the struggle, a security guard for Waka Flocka discharged his firearm, possibly as a warning to dispel the fighting.

Numerous sources allege that Flocka was attacked by Slick Pulla, an artist signed to Young Jeezy’s Corporate Thugz Entertainment label, and member of the group USDA (United Dope Boyz of America).

“Story has it that Waka Flocka and Slick Pulla have been beefing since an alte rcation that happened in Miami a few months ago,” explained celebrity photographer Freddy O. “Slick Pulla wanted to get it popping and that’s what he tried to do. After a tussle and fight throughout the entire Walter’s store, with customers, gunfire rang out. In the end, Slick Pulla left the store while Waka was left with a bloody nose and eye.”

Patrick Morrison confirmed the assault as well, stating “whoever he (Waka Flocka) is he’s got a big swollen eye now.”

Slick Pulla was just released earlier this year from prison after serving a 2 year bid for parole violation. The terms of his release allowed him to leave the location on work release, which may now be violated if criminal charges are levied.

Thursday’s brawl marks the second Atlanta attack in three months on Waka Flocka Flame. In January, the young rapper was shot in the arm at a car wash on Old National Highway after refusing to give up his jewelry.

Flocka took his Twitter several hours ago, and offered a different version of earlier reports that he was left battered and bloody.

In his response, the Atlanta rapper made light of the conflict and boasted that he administered his own beating to his attacker.

"Shout out to shawty who ran up wit the lumps on his face that look like Martin Lawrence ...... lol," quipped Flocka, alluding to a memorable episode of the comedian's sitcom where Lawrence was humorously disfigured after a bout with boxer Tommy Hearns.

At press time, neither camps have released official statements.

Plies Sued By Nightclub Shooting Victims

Victims of a 2006 Florida nightclub shooting are suing the rapper Plies claiming he has increased his credibility in the violent gangsta rap world and made money because of their suffering.

The five victims had non-life threatening gunshot wounds after a fight broke out between the entourage of rapper Plies and another rapper at the club in Gainesville.

An amended lawsuit filed Wednesday in Alachua County Circuit Court adds the rapper's brother and his record label, Big Gates Records, to an existing civil suit against Plies, whose real name is Algernod Lanier Washington. The lawsuit was originally filed in April 2008.

Plies pleaded no contest to illegal possession of a concealed weapon found after the shootings and served no prison time. His brother, Ronell Levatte, served three years in prison after pleading no contest to weapons charges.

The plaintiffs' lawyers say the rapper makes references to the shooting in his lyrics and has generally used it to promote his street cred.

"The irony is that when you criminally prosecute (gangsta rappers) their stock goes up," said Chad Roberts, a Jacksonville-based attorney representing the shooting victims. "It's hard to punish them. The only way to punish is them is to hold the record company accountable."

Robert Rush , Washington's Gainesville-based attorney, called the suit "baseless propaganda." He said his client didn't have a gun in the club and that it's not clear who fired the shots that harmed the plaintiffs.

He also accused the plaintiff's attorneys of trying to grab publicity by amending a lawsuit that had been stagnant for months in a county court.

"This is defamation of character and it is all false. If his music wasn't any good, he wouldn't have gotten anywhere. This happened four years ago, his record sales are not doing great because of this," Rush said.

Lil Wayne Gets New Sentencing Date

Lil Wayne has been given a third sentencing date for a 2007 gun charge, after a fire in a New York courthouse postponed the sentencing yesterday (March 2).

The rapper was scheduled to be sentenced to a one-year prison term for attempted possession of a weapon, after he pleaded guilty to the gun charge in October.

Judge Charles H. Solomon was supposed to sentence the rapper to prison on February 9th, but he postponed the sentencing so Lil Wayne could have dental work done.

Judge Solomon rescheduled the date for March 2, but a fire broke out in the basement of the courthouse yesterday.

Over 1,000 people were forced to evacuate the building, which was shut down for the day after eight people, including five firefighters were treated for injuries.

According to TMZ.com, Lil Wayne will be sentenced to prison on Monday (March 8).

DMX Announces Gosple Album

Rapper DMX has announced a "gospel rap extravaganza" church performance next weekend in Arizona.

According to reports, X will take center stage at the Morning Star Sanctified Church on Saturday (March 6).

TMZ has learned the oft-incarcerated rapper, real name Earl Simmons, agreed to perform at the Morning Star Sanctified Church for a fundraiser this Saturday -- and he's doing it for free. According to Pastor Barbara King, DMX and his family have been members of the congregation for eight months now and he really wanted to help raise money for repairs. We're told the school holding the event is amping up security because they're unsure of what kind of crowd the convicted felon will draw. Tickets are going from $35-$40 a pop. FYI -- We're also told DMX doesn't swear anymore ... so we have absolutely no idea what he's going to perform. (TMZ)

While locked up in an Arizona prison last year on animal cruelty charges, X said he planned to take a more religious route upon his departure.

"I'm gonna start a TV show while I'm in here, 'Pain and Perseverance.' It's about how I can reach people the average person can't reach because I'm grounded," he said in a January 2009 interview. "And then I'm going to give my first sermon in church, that's gonna be like, incredible for me. I have actually just completed a gospel album. On every one of my albums, there's been a gospel song and a prayer and of course with the image, they never made those into singles, except for my sixth album. They did "Lord Give Me A Sign" as a single." (Fox 10 News)

After his release in May 2009, X spoke on being influenced by God to better his ways.

"I feel great man, I feel good man," X said over the phone. "Doing a lot of praying, lot of people been praying for me. Wanna thank everybody praying for me, all the prayers worked. Yeah man, get back to this music thing. The movies, I got the industry waiting right now. But I gotta say it's through the grace of God that I made it through this thing, because I've been to jail before, jail ain't really nothing, but here in Arizona is a whole 'nother situation man. They feed you two times a day, they got you wearing stripes in pink. It's reckless man. I did some soul searching when I was in there, I actually read the whole Bible when I was in jail." ("Strawberry In The Morning")

Ruff Ryders producer Swizz Beatz recently spoke on trying to clock in studio time with the rapper.

"It's still love [with DMX]. At the end of the day, it's about scheduling, timing -- if it was just about going in the studio, we would have 50 albums done. But it's not about that; it's about a lot of personal things. I'm on this side of the world, he's on that side of the world." (MTV)

Trina Talks Leaked Nude Photos

Rapper Trina has addressed a cell phone she recently lost which she claims contains content that would leave her "devastated" if it leaked worldwide.

Speaking in an interview, Trina opened up about her lost phone.

"I lost my phone and I had some pictures of me that I don't want the world to see," Trina said in an interview. "And I'm thinking, if it ever comes out, I'm devastated, but I mean, it's not sex tape pictures but still, I don't want you to see them, they're not for you. But losing a phone and all this stuff happens -- but it's a wake up call...I just feel like, what's personal is personal. I don't feel like, as an artist, like I need to do anything to expose myself. I don't need to put out a nude photo for press...I don't need a sex tape of me and my, my significant other to be worldwide, for the world to see." (STR8 NYC)

Reports claim her phone may have been stolen over the weekend.

Trina's story that her cell phone turned up missing while she was onstage performing at BET's Rip The Runway, does hold water. Theft is a well-known problem at fashion shows. Especially when the shows aren't organized properly and models have every Tom, Dick and Shanaynay visiting them in the dressing rooms. Sometimes the models themselves steal from each other. Just hang around long enough after a fashion show and you're bound to hear models complaining about personal items turning up missing. (Sandra Rose)

Trina recently denied rumors of dating rapper Soulja Boy Tell Em.

"Actually I was in Jamaica, I was supposed to perform on the Jamaica, I think it was like the Jamaica Dance Fest or whatever," Trina told radio personality Angela Yee. "And Soulja Boy was supposed to perform on the same show, and I just recorded a record for him which is called 'Like That.' And they were trying to shoot some scenes for his video for that record so it was all fun, we all went out. We were just skiing. We were supposed to do the whole sky diving thing or whatever, and I was just looking up at that balloon like 'I don't think I'm getting up there,' but it was really cool. I got a chance to perform, it rained, we just had a good time...No we weren't grinding, Angie. [laughs]" (Sirius 45)

Trina recently joined forces with rap mogul Diddy's Circoc Vodka brand.

"Things are gonna be real big," Diddy said about Trina. "She's an official Ciroc girl...Ciroc is gonna be promoting her album, she's gonna be helping us, we gonna be doing it together. We got a new partnership that we rocking with but most importantly, the record and a video is off the chain...You gonna see us performing the joint live, too. She's gonna have the full-length chinchilla and just be buckey-naked with some stickies on. You know what I'm saying, because the body is thorough. Believe that, she's in the gym!" 50 Cent Employee Accused of Setting House on Fire

One of 50 Cent’s employees has been accused of setting his Long Island, NY home on fire.

The Republican American reports that Connecticut resident Shana Chin testified in court Thursday (Feb. 25) against Dwayne McKenzie, an associate of 50, claiming he assaulted her while visiting him at 50’s Long Island mansion.

In her testimony, however, she then revealed that McKenzie often talked about setting the home 50’s ex-girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins lived in, on fire, shortly after Chin claims she was assaulted. 50 Cent was not specifically named in the case.

In May 2008, 50 Cent’s $1.4 million estate was mysteriously set on fire, sending both his ex-girlfriend and their son, Marquise, to the hospital. At the time of the fire, 50 was in the midst of a court battle to evict Tompkins from the house.

Lil Jon Finalizes "Crunk Rock" Release Date

Producer Lil Jon has announced a release date for his Crunk Rock LP and said the project would offer music fans a multitude of sounds including R&B, house and rock.

With help from artists like Game and R. Kelly, Jon's album is set to come out this June.

"I'm finally ready to get CRUNK ROCK out there to my people!! It's been a long time comin' and the album has somethin' for everyone on it," he wrote in a statement. "I gave them every kind of Lil Jon that they have ever heard on an album. From the crunk sh*t, to R&B, to house, electro and rock... The album is on a whole other level... I can't wait for da' people to hear it!!!" (Hip Hop Press)

He recently said the project would reflect his recent experience on the road as a deejay.

"Eventually TVT folded and I got off the label," Jon explained in an interview. "I got signed to Universal Republic about a year ago and I went back to the studio and started working on the album again and I had a whole new energy, new vibe, from being on the road deejaying and just from taking some time off, clearing my mind. So now I'm done, we're officially ready. It's not like, 'We're almost done,' I'm just working on like one or the last two songs but all of my vocals are done except for one song. [It's still called] Crunk Rock." (DJ Ekin)

Last October, Jon said the album was on the verge of completion.

"We're pretty much like 80 percent done," Jon said of Crunk Rock, his first solo album, slated to be released by early next year. "It's probably one of my best albums to date in the sense that it's got a little bit of everything that I know everybody's going to groove to. I basically got the tracks that I want down, and I just need to make some final touches...I loved making people dance. That's what I'm getting back to." (Associated Press)

Originally planned to drop around 2006, the project was recently pushed to November 2009.

While known for his unique, high-velocity production style, Lil Jon says the album will bear the fruits of his collaborations with the producers behind some of the most indelible, Billboard chart-topping hits of recent years, including DJ David Guetta, Dr. Luke and RedOne. In addition, Crunk Rock's guest-star parade will include The Game, Ice Cube, 3Oh!3, Elephant Man, Pastor Troy, Ying Yang Twinz, Pitbull, Soulja Boy, R.Kelly, Akon and Florida punk rock group Whole Wheat Bread. (Rolling Stone)

Crunk Rock is scheduled to drop Tuesday, June 8th.

Z-Ro to Face Felony Drug Possession Charges

Texas lyricist Z-Ro will be in court on March 1 to answer a felony drug possession charge from last year.

Z-Ro, real name Joseph Wayne McVey, was arrested in February 2009 when authorities found him with a codeine mixture weighing over 28 grams.

The rapper’s attorney Robert Jones has proclaimed his client innocent, claiming the codeine bottle was a prescription cough syrup medicine assigned to another party.

"Right now, the penalty has been enhanced, so I would have to look that up to see what exactly that is, but I anticipate that he is going to trial because he didn't do anything, so the penalty is zero," Jones explained to the Houston Press blog Hair Balls. “They're trying to ramp up the charges and make him scared so he'll take something. It is nothing more than a form of intimidation. It doesn't change the facts of the case at all."

Z-Ro has released 13 solo albums since 1998. Some of his critically-acclaimed LPs, such as 2006’s I’m Still Livin’, were released while the rapper was incarcerated.

Last year, Z-Ro was found not guilty for misdemeanor marijuana possession. In 2003, Z-Ro served time for a codeine conviction that violated his parole.

Citing his music and industry colleagues, Jones believes his client is telling the truth and would have been ready to face any consequences if he were guilty.

“Everybody who knows his music has told me that he is a purist. And he's just an honest, forthright person. If he did it, he'll say he did it,” Jones stated.

Z-Ro’s latest studio album is 2009’s Cocaine, which featured appearances from Gucci Mane, Lil Flip, Mike D, and Big Pokey.

Drake Teams w/ "Forever" Producer For First Single

Young Money's Drake has announced the lead single from his upcoming Thank Me Later debut and said it would be produced by the hitmaker responsible for his "Forever" hit.

According to Drake, the single will be called "Over."

The wait is almost over. Drake has selected the first single from his highly-anticipated debut album. The first offering from Thank Me Later will be called "Over." Drizzy exclusively tells Rap-Up.com that the track was produced by fellow Canadian Boi-1da, who is responsible for two of his biggest hits, "Best I Ever Had" and "Forever." The Young Money signee went through a painstaking process before choosing the right single. (Rap-Up)

Earlier this month, producer Boi-1da revealed his involvement on the project.

"Yes I do, that's just because I love doing that and experimenting, whereas if you work with someone who has their sound already, you have to cater to it," he told interviewer Sajae E. "Right now I'm solely focused on making Drake's album a classic album as of right now, so that's all I can say, but be on the look out for a bunch of stuff coming through. Shout-out to all of Toronto." (iLuvLoLa)

Producer Swizz Beatz recently spoke on working with Drake's debut.

"For Drake, I'm like, 'What you want? A party joint or you want another story joint? What you wanna do?' He said the smartest thing: 'We could shoot for a club thing but don't leave out anything else.' I like that. He's being open-minded, 'cause that means I'm comfortable with surfing in different areas musically. We could surf there, surf there, but don't box me in a corner, like, 'I need that #1 club smash right now.'" (MTV)

Kanye West associate No I.D. has reportedly clocked in time with the rapper

Dr Dre Sues Death Row Records Over 'The Chronic'

Dr. Dre has sued Death Row Records over his album The Chronic - claiming he is due royalties for the record and that it was reissued without his permission.

The rapper/producer filed the suit for around $75,000 yesterday (February 11) in federal court in Los Angeles. He claimed that he has not been paid royalties on the 1992 album since he left the label in 1996 and that the 2009 reissue The Chronic: Re-Lit was issued without his consent, reports Billboard.

In the suit Dre claimed that his attorneys notified the owners of Death Row since last year, WIDEawake, of the royalties owed to him but they did not pay him.

"When it came to paying artist royalties and honouring limits on Dr. Dre recordings that could be released, the 'new' Death Row Records, to quote our client, 'forgot about Dre,'" the rapper's attorney Howard King. "This lawsuit will make sure they remember."

Nelly Tries To Stop Violance at Party

Rapper Nelly has made headlines after reportedly being assaulted during a fist fight at a Super Bowl party.

According to reports, the St. Lunatic rapper attempted to break-up a physical confrontation.

Rapper Nelly took a punch trying to break up a brawl between his bodyguards and bouncers at club Liv at Miami's Fontainebleau Friday night. As Nelly was taking the stage at the pre-Super Bowl party attended by Jets Mark Sanchez and Braylon Edwards, "his security appeared to get into an argument with the hotel's security staff," said a source. "Nelly got in the middle and got punched by mistake. Then it spilled out of the back door and continued outside." Reps for Nelly and the hotel didn't get back to us. (New York Post)

Reports last month said Diddy attempted to break-up a potential fight between rapper Rick Ross and boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Floyd Mayweather was ready to rumble with a famous nemesis in Vegas this weekend -- but just before a fight broke out, Diddy saved the day. It all went down at the grand opening of Vanity nightclub in the Hard Rock Hotel -- which was hosted by Diddy. We're told Floyd Mayweather rolled over to the party to see Diddy, when he literally ran into rapper Rick Ross. Sources tell TMZ one of the men "bumped" into the other man and their entourages immediately became "confrontational." But as things started to heat up, we're told Diddy swooped in between the guys and calmed everyone down. We called Mayweather's camp for comment and his father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., told us there's been beef between Floyd and Ross for a while because Ross has allegedly been, "talking s**t." We're told both Mayweather Jr. and Ross eventually went back in the club and partied the rest of the night away without incident. (TMZ)

Aside from personal matters, Nelly is currently working on a new album.

"'DL2!' This is one thing, we know we can't in no way shape of form can we outdo part one," Nelly said about "Dilemma Part II." "There's no way. You're in a lose situation if you go in trying to do that. What the new song is doing is a continuation of the story. It's produced by my man Jim Jonsin and my man Rico Love. We were in the studio in Miami and I called K and she was in the bed and just shot down to the studio. I got a collaboration with Taraji Henson that was produced by Jermaine Dupri. It's crazy." Lil Wayne Talks Haiti Vs. New Orleans & Jail Time

Lil Wayne recently discussed how the massive 7.0 earthquake in Haiti on January 12 impacted his life.
In an interview with MTV News, the rapper revealed that he had numerous Haitian friends who lost family members in the earthquake, which left over 200,000 dead and over three million people displaced.

“I live in Miami, so I have a few Haitian friends,” Lil Wayne told MTV News. “So it impacted me seriously, because some of them lost some of their kids and I had to help out with those situations.”

And although the New Orleans’ Saints are celebrating a Super Bowl victory that will surely boost the city’s spirits, the rapper noted that the conditions in the city are still dire.

“Before I go I think it’s amazing what’s been for Haiti, but I also think it’s amazing what hasn’t been done for New Orleans,” Lil Wayne told reporters.

Today (February 9), Lil Wayne will start serving an one-year jail sentenced on New York’s Rikers Island for a felony gun charge possession in July of 2007.

“This is Lil Wayne going to jail. Nobody I can talk to can tell me what that’s like. I just say I’m looking forward to it,” the rapper told Rolling Stone Magazine.

Lil Wayne is planning the release of Tha Carter IV, shortly after he is released from prison.

Ludacris Releases Spirited Mixtape

Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris announced plans to release a new mixtape called Conjure: A Hustler's Spirit.

According to Luda, he has found a renewed sense of value and inspiration in rap.

"Before the album, after the album, I'm just in a space where I'm inspired," he says. "I'm inspired by beats of course, the ones that are on Battle of the Sexes. But even beyond that, I'm jumping on stuff. It's my exercise. I wanna give all my fans something -- [the ones] that have been supporting me for the last 10 years -- something for free. It's as simple as this. Spirit has a double meaning. When you talk about spirits, you talk about liquors, as in Conjure [cognac]. Then my spirit, I have a hustler's spirit. People that listen to the mixtape have a hustler's spirit. It's a lot of people out there getting money. That's basically what this thing is about. Even in the rap game, you have to sell records, we hustle. This is for the hustlers. Simple as that." (MTV)

The rapper recently moved up his Battle of the Sexes album release date.

"The release date on the new album is officially March 9th, it was March 16th, it's been pushed up a week due to the anticipation, feeling good, Battle of the Sexes, just got picked up on the Black Eyed Peas tour, so we'll be promoting that starting Thursday all the way until the end of April," Luda said in an interview. "So look for Battle of the Sexes on March 9th. Females from the past, present and future. Everybody from Eve, Trina, Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj, I got records talking about women, to women, women talking back to me and at the same time, just great music. I always try to out-do myself and re-invent, this is album number seven." (Meet Tha Dealer TV)

A partial tracklisting for the album was revealed during a listening session earlier this month.

Noting that the tracklisting was subject to change before its tentative March 16 release date, Bridges thanked the crowd for supporting him over the last decade and offered his latest battle footage. 1. "Hey Ho" featuring Lil Kim 2. "Tell Me a Secret" featuring Ne-Yo 3. "My Chick Bad" featuring Nicki Minaj 4. "Got a Man" featuring Flo Rida 5. "Can't Live With You, Can't Live Without You" featuring Monica 6. "How Low" (Remix) featuring Ciara, Pitbull, Rick Ross, Twista 7. "Sex Room" featuring Trey Songz (Los Angeles Times)

Reports last month suggested production from hitmakers like Swizz Beatz.

Ludacris is waging an all-out war with the opposite sex. The Atlanta rapper has challenged some of female rap's biggest stars to a battle on his new album. Lil' Kim, Eve, Trina and Nicki Minaj are among those getting in the ring with the Grammy winner on his seventh studio album Battle of the Sexes, due March 16. Previously planned as a joint album with femcee Shawnna, the set will also include appearances from Ne-Yo, Ciara, Flo Rida and Plies. Bangladesh, Swizz Beatz and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League have all contributed to the project. (Rap-Up)

Battle of the Sexes is scheduled to drop Tuesday, March 9th.

Eminem Connect With DJ Kahlil For Relapse 2

Off the heels of his Grammy performance of “Forever” with Eminem, Lil Wayne, Drake and Travis Barker, XXLMag had the chance to chop it up with The Alchemist about Em’s highly anticipated new disc, Relapse 2.

While the disc does not have a release date as of press time, ALC says Em is hard at work in the studio with DJ Khalil. The West Coast beatsmith has had a big year, producing standout joints for Drake (“Fear”), Clipse (“Kinda Like a Big Deal”) and Slaughterhouse (“Cuckoo”).

“Khalil—who I think is like the best producer right now to me—he had been sending records to Em for a while that wasn’t like, they weren’t like clicking in,” Alchemist told XXL. “Em knew he was dope but they haven’t found the right one. And I think they found a couple joints now… the joints they have are crazy. I can’t say 100 percent [that he made the album], but I have heard at least two joints Khalil did and they’re fuckin’ stupid.”

Al, who serves as the Detroit lyricist’s tour DJ, revealed that he has yet to score a beat on Em’s project. “I’m starting to be around Em and the camp more,” he said, “especially finishing these albums. Factor in Em’s sober now, it’s like that’s my man, we chop it up a lot more now…it’s like little by little I’m figuring out what I have to do to create a sound that would be Alchemist/Eminem. I didn’t get it yet.”

One person that Em has been working a lot with is Just Blaze. Al gave XXL insight into their chemistry: “He clicked with Em,” he said. “It was really amazing, too. They really vibed and made some music, beyond like Just just sending him beats, it was nothing like that…I think it’s a perfect meshing of the two…If you could imagine what they could bring to the table at this point, it’s pretty close and maybe a little more.”

In fact, in ALC’s opinion, the whole album is a level above the first Relapse. “He’s doing things lyrically on this album that he hasn’t done before,” he shared. “The punchline game is really back.”

Mystikal to Help C-Murder With Legal Woes

Mystikal recently spoke about former No Limit Records labelmate C-Murder's 2009 murder conviction.

In addition to Murder, Mystikal also updated fans on his relationship with Master P.

"I haven't had a chance to speak with him since I been back though," Mystikal told DJ Whoo Kid in an interview. "I ain't get a chance to holla at him yet. I hollered at C before his [case] went the way it did, you know. We gonna see if we can work on that too, I can't let him sit in there like that. He still got some breathing room, he got a little fight left in him." (Radio Planet TV)

Master P recently spoke about his brother, C-Murder, doing time behind bars.

"Your image can get you incarcerated and take a lot of things away from you," P explained. "I think he realizes that right now and he definitely will be fighting an appeal but it takes times. It might take two to three years. He's innocent from his crimes, everybody knows that but that goes to show you how your image and all the stuff from your past -- it makes others think 'Oh, you know this guy's name is C-Murder, so he's guilty.' They don't even look at, 'Oh you wasn't in the club, you didn't pull the trigger.' Man, your image can really describe your life." (SOHH)

C-Murder's financial woes have reportedly landed him the help of two Harvard attorneys who have agreed to assist with his appeal.

Though Miller himself has no income, property or savings, two Harvard lawyers have come to his defense, declaring him indigent so that he may make his appeal and access court records at no cost. The cost for the case records is $20,702, which Miller is unable to pay. His hearing is set for Dec. 10, but he also faces a civil suit for the teenager's death. (The Boom Box)

According to a letter from Miller's attorneys, the Southern emcee's funds are limited.

Miller cannot afford the estimated $20,702.75 to pay for the entire case record and all hearing and pretrial hearing and trial transcripts and fees, according to a motion filed by attorneys Robert J. Smith and John Adcock. The transcripts would cost $17,335, the attorneys wrote. Miller would not have to pay the costs if Judge Hans Liljeberg of the 24th Judicial District Court declares him indigent. Miller is presumed to be indigent because he is incarcerated, does not own a vehicle or real estate or have income or savings, the attorneys wrote. They note that Miller's trial attorney, Ron Rakosky, has not been paid. Rakosky withdrew from the case when Miller was sentenced Aug. 14. (NOLA News)

Eminem, Drake & Lil Wayne to Perform for Grammys

Rappers Eminem, Drake and Lil Wayne have been added to the line-up of performers for this weekend's 52nd Grammy Awards.

According to a Twitter posting by The Grammys, the threesome have been confirmed to perform.

"We have some huge news for you! We have seven names - four of them are performing TOGETHER, three are presenting. Any guesses? .@StephenAtHome, @KeithUrban and @jlo will present at the GRAMMYs this Sunday! A hint as to one of the four performers: http://bit.ly/bwqoSb More good news! RT @CBSTweet Simon Baker, @RyanSeacrest, Chris O'Donnell, Robert Downey, Jr, Kaley Cuoco named as presenters for the GRAMMYs You heard it here 1st: nominees @drakkardnoir, @EmiNeM & Lil Wayne in a special performance w @trvsbrkr added to the stellar GRAMMY lineup! (The Grammys' Twitter)

Speculation has grown suggesting Eminem, Drake and Wayne will perform Travis Barker's "Forever" remix.

Working strictly off an a cappella track, Barker crafted his "Forever" mix from the ground up, spending a week tinkering in the studio with his production partner, Sweatshop. The main goal, he said, was to build a drum line that matched the constantly shifting mood and tempo of the song, which famously features verses from Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem, even if that meant showing a bit of restraint on the remix -- something he's not used to doing. (MTV)

This week, singer Rihanna shot down speculation of participating in a Grammy performance.

Looks like Rihanna won't be getting a Grammy do-over. Despite rumors that she'd perform at this year's awards show, Rihanna told Carson Daly on his Amp Radio show today (January 27) that she'll attend, but won't be hitting the stage. "We messed their show up pretty bad last year," she said. "They might be a little mad at me." Rihanna is, of course, referring to the Grammymorning brawl with her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown that caused both of them to miss their scheduled performances, and left the Grammy producers scrambling at the last minute to fill the time. No biggie to Rihanna, though. She'll still go into the show nominated twice for "Run This Town," her collaboration with Jay-Z and Kanye West. They'll vie for the Best Rap/Sung Category (the same category that earned Rihanna her first Grammy for "Umbrella") and Best Rap Song. (Rihanna Daily)

This year's Grammys will also be led by performances from Beyonce and Taylor Swift.

Leading Grammy contenders Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift will be among the performers at the awards early next year. Nominations have already been announced, with Beyonce vying for 10 awards while Swift is up for eight. R&B singer Maxwell and country group Lady Antebellum, who are up for six and two awards respectively, have also been added to the bill. (BBC News)

Winners in all categories of the 52nd annual event will be announced at a televised awards ceremony on Jan 31.

Ludacris Taps Nicki Minaj & Trina for New Album

Ludacris is waging an all-out war with the opposite sex. The Atlanta rapper has challenged some of female rap’s biggest stars to a battle on his new album.

Lil’ Kim, Eve, Trina, and Nicki Minaj are among those getting in the ring with the Grammy winner on his seventh studio album Battles of the Sexes, due March 16.

Previously planned as a joint album with femcee Shawnna, the set will also include appearances from Ne-Yo, Ciara, Flo Rida and Plies.

“There’s never really been an album with a male rapper and a female rapper together going head-to-head on different issues, mostly relationship issues,” Ludacris told Rap-Up last year. Bangladesh, Swizz Beatz and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League have all contributed to the project.

“How Low,” the first single off the follow-up to 2008’s Theater of the Mind, is already No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. A video directed by Dave Myers debuted last week.

Dr. Dre Not Rushing "Detox" Release

Producer Dr. Dre has addressed his long-awaited Detox album delay and said he is still trying to create the "perfect" record.

Dre also said the studio time he's dedicated to other artists has further delayed the album.

"Once that sound is right, once that mix is right, it's a feeling that you get, here -- It's unexplainable," Dre said about putting together his records. "I have to go out to clubs now...You need to understand what people are listening to. I'm working hard on it. I'm stopping to work on other artists in-between, but the minute it's done and I feel it right here. I don't think I've done that [perfect] record yet. I'll know what it is when it comes; I know exactly what it is in my head, but I haven't done it yet. It's close...I got some sh*t coming, believe me." (Guardian)

Dre associate Warren G recently spoke on the album delay and having a possible collaboration on the project.

"Yeah, he gonna drop it, I mean, he's just, he's a perfectionist," Warren promised in an interview. "So when he feels right, that's when he's gonna let it go but I think he's close because when he starts working with Snoop [Dogg], that's when I know he's getting down to the wire. Me and him are supposed to do a record on there, he said as soon as he finds the right record, with the right melody, we'll do it. So you know, I'm gonna be waiting so if I'm on Detox this time, cool. If not, I think it'll be something that the world would love to see because it's never been done, the publicity on it will be huge it's like 'Warren G and Dr. Dre doing a song? That's crazy.'" (Hard Knock TV)

Dre recently admitted that the album would likely not come out until closer to 2011.

A script for another huge push back of the mythical album has been written. Dr. Dre is featured in the Dimedrop section of the March Edition of SLAM Magazine. The interview is mainly about Basketball but as usual, the interviewer Konate Primus couldn't resist asking the producer about the status of the album. "Well, I'm working on it, but also I've been working on other people's projects; you'll probably hear something in a year or so." (Hip Hop N More)

Speaking at an in-store media conference last November, Dre also explained why he has to feel "right" about the solo project before dropping it.

"You know what, I'm working hard on it man," Dre promised during an in-store interview. "I'm going and I'm stopping, I'm working with other artists in-between and what have you, but I'm working hard on it and the minute it's done and I feel it right here [in my chest] and it feels right to me, that's when it'll come out. And you know, hopefully at the beginning of the year." (Ms. Drama TV)

Trina Plans To Adopt Hatian Child

Miami rapper Trina seeks to get involved with the effort to aid the millions of people in Haiti who were impacted by a devastating 7.0 earthquake on January 12, that has killed at least 200,000 people.

According to Trina, she is seeking to contribute more than money and/or other relief by adopting a child from Haiti.

“I would like to contribute on a higher level for more personal reasons in addition to being ready to raise/nurture a child; by being involved on a day to day bases,” Trina told AllHipHop.

According to Trina, she had been considering adopting a child from the impoverished island nation, which has been bombarded with a series of natural disasters since.

Thousands of children lost their parents during natural disasters that have included flooding, hurricanes and now the massive earthquake.

Additionally, a series of aftershocks, including a 6.1 tremor, hampered rescue efforts last week and injured and killed more people.

“The tragic and untimely list of events that have happened in Haiti even before the recent ‘Earthquake’ have made me realized how blessed I am as a individual and I want to share that with a child that is a victim in this disturbing time,” Trina stated.

Trina, who is planning to release a new album titled Amazin’ this year, believes that she is at a point in her career where she is mature enough to handle the responsibilities of motherhood, in addition to juggling her famed rap career.

“I am in the financial position to adopt; therefore I am taking it into deep consideration at this time,” Trina revealed. “I have always admired other individuals for adopting children, not so much for their celebrity status, but more so because of the nurturing and invaluable change and joy it will bring to a child’s life."

The rapper stated that she also has family members from Haiti, which would make the adoption of a child a logical choice.

“The fact that I am considering adopting a child from Haiti is even more significant to me seeing that a great deal of adopted children that come into the United States are from ‘larger countries’ such as China, Russia and Africa,” Trina said.

Soulja Boy has many non-musical projects in the works, and some astonishing production credits that are sure to impress. “I did some songs for Kanye [West]. I did some production of Drake’s new album [Thank Me Later]. I’ve been producing for Jamie Foxx, Snoop [Dogg], Gucci [Mane]. I’ve basically been able to collaborate with just about everybody in the game. My album The DeAndre Way will come out on July 28 so mark your calendars. I’m gonna be three albums deep in the game so I’m gonna have a lot of music to party with. I’m going to bring some great artist out on the road with me. I don’t have a name for the tour yet but as soon as I do I’ll let the people know.”

Waka Flocka Shot in Atlanta

Up-and-coming Atlanta MC Waka Flocka Flame was shot Tuesday (January 19) in his hometown, according to Fulton County Police.

Flocka (real name: Juaquin Malphurs) suffered a gunshot wound to the arm as he was stopped at a carwash on National Highway. He was rushed to nearby Grady Hospital. A spokesperson for his record company said Flame will be fine.

T.I. Working On New Album

The King is returning to claim his throne. Less than a month after entering a halfway house, T.I. is back at work recording a new album.

Jim Jonsin, who helped take Tip to No. 1 with “Whatever You Like,” will once again be involved with the project. Jonsin recently spoke with the rapper upon his release to an Atlanta correctional facility after serving seven months behind bars on weapons charges.

According to the producer, the King of the South hasn’t let lockdown dampen his spirits. “It doesn’t seem like he missed a beat,” he exclusively tells Rap-Up. “He was so upbeat, his spirits were up, and he’s excited to be out and working. He hasn’t changed, he sounded exactly like he did when I talked to him months before he went in.”

T.I. hit the ground running and is already in the studio crafting the follow-up to 2008’s multi-platinum Paper Trail. “He’s back in the studio. I sent him some music via email,” Jonsin reveals. “He can work during the week and not on the weekend, I believe. He’s definitely working on an album for this year right now.”

The project’s direction is still up in the air. “That’s really going to be determined by him. We’re supposed to get together or talk more about it soon,” Jonsin shares. “But his last album was great and his sound already does really well, so I wouldn’t se e him changing too much.”

Jay-Z Shoots Down Devil Worship Rumors

Jay-Z's new avant-garde video for "On to the Next One" — with images of ram skulls, black crows and a Joker-like clown — has some bloggers talking that Jay is dabbling in demonic imagery and Freemason symbolism. Hov thinks that's ridiculous.

"I got a lot of money," Hov told Power 105.1 radio host Ed Lover on Wednesday (January 13). "When people get a lot of money, they start getting those rumors like Tom Cruise, Willie Smith. That's ridiculous."

Hov is also the subject of a new independent street DVD that alleges he is "Hip-Hop's Master Mason" and the Blueprint pays homage to a secret society.

"That's crazy to me," Jay scoffed. "I gotta remind people I'm from Marcy Projects. I can't get into a golf club in Palm Springs."

Swizz Beatz also denied rumors that the "On to the Next One" clip promotes devil worship.

"I don't think about that. I know that's a billion percent not true. The video displays another level of art and creativity from two great minds: the director and Jay — and myself, bringing the collaboration together. It's no satanic ways around me and that's for sure," he explained. "I'm with Jay — I never see none of that stuff around him unless he's hiding something, which I doubt. C'mon, man. That's silly stuff. T hat stuff you don't even comment on; we on to the next one."

"I'm aware of the stir the video has caused and what people are saying," the clip's director, Sam Brown, told Vibe.com. "I think when you're dealing in abstract imagery people are going to want to draw lines between things and make sense of it. However, I've always felt that the viewing public was, in general, extremely visually literate. They don't always want or need things to be spelled out for them. One of the great things about music videos are they can be enjoyed purely visually — it doesn't need to mean anything or make any sense. Conspiracy theory is another thing entirely, and seems to me to be about projecting pre-existing beliefs and desperately looking for things that confirm them. There is imagery in this video that is drawn from all over the place. None of it is owned by any one culture or belief system. You can connect anything if you try hard enough, and make it mean anything you want it to."

"It didn't look like we was worshipping the devil," Swizz continued, speaking on behalf of himself, Jay and Young Jeezy, who are all featured in the video. "It was easy. The song, the chemistry between me, Jay [and] Jeezy is a natural flow. When you put that in front of the camera, it's natural. Jay was on set, I think, for only two hours. I was on set for like, an hour. Same thing. Jeezy was there. It was real quick. The director took it and went on to the next one. ... I never expected the video to come out like that ... it's like a portrait. It's like a canvas he took, which was the green screen, and he took that canvas and really painted it Murakami, Basquiat style. There go the results."

Big Boi recently killed rumors of his new album dropping on Def Jam Records.

"It's not even on Def Jam," Boi explained in an interview. "It's not even on Def Jam. I was in a little situation, the [journalist] jumped in the interview, we was in the midst of talks and then in the midst of that, some more things happened and we in a great situation right now. That'll be announced very soon. The album should be out I think -- in about 12 weeks maybe. So you know, it's coming real soon." (Maurice Garland)

Boi previously said his move to Def Jam was nearly complete in an interview last summer.

"The lawyers just have to finish their lawyering," Big explained, and added that he was happy to be working with LaFace co-founder and current Island Def Jam Chairman and CEO LA Reid again, since "he's been with us since the beginning." Usher Reportedly Robbed For $1 Million in Jewelry

R&B singer Usher was reportedly the victim of a robber that stole $1 million in jewelry from his car.

According to reports, the robbery took place in mid-December.

It all went down in Atlanta on December 14th -- Usher and a friend were in an AT&T store when someone broke into his GMC Yukon and took whatever they could get. According to the police report, Usher claims the bandit made off with all sorts of Xmas gifts and personal belongings including $50,000 in furs, a computer and more than a million bucks in jewelry that he happened to have in the car at the time. (TMZ)

Additional reports suggest there is a witness.

A witness said they saw a Chevy Impala with tinted windows drive up next to the SUV. The witness told police a man got out of the Impala and popped open the door to the SUV. The incident is still under investigation. (Fox News)

Aside from the robbery, Usher's new album Raymond v. Raymond was recently delayed.

According to the spokesperson, the date change is to give Raymond v. Raymond the proper set-up time that it deserves. "This is a solid album that we believe in. We want to give it a proper launch." The album's lead single, "Papers," holds the No. 2 post this week on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. (Billboard)

The album will reportedly touch on Usher's differences with his ex-wife Tameka Foster, which became publicized during a 911 call the singer made earlier this fall.

"I actually wanted to report a situation where my car has been keyed," Usher told the 911 operator. "Yes ma'am, property damage. Can you hold on for one second? It happened last night apparently, I had called and filed a complaint because of a potential domestic violence between me and my ex-wife because she had come to my house, they sent the police there last night, we filed a complaint. My name is Usher Raymond...It was around 12 o'clock, last night [the car was fine]. It was after I had an altercation between my ex-wife and after I filed a complaint and the police came, she fled the scene. But when I woke up this morning I saw my car..." (YouTube)

No further details have been revealed as of now.

Lil Wayne's 'Rebirth' Not Pushed Back

Despite previous reports, Lil Wayne's Rebirth will hit stores as originally planned.

Reports surfaced last week indicating that Wayne's rock project would suffer yet another setback after being accidentally leaked by internet retailer Amazon, and would be pushed back to June 22.

However, it has now been said that the album will indeed hit stores February 2, as had been previously planned. According to Young Money's Mack Maine, the leaked version of the album will not be the same as the one that will hit shelves in February - though he did not indicate how different it would be.

The album will drop one week before Lil Wayne's one-year prison sentence for criminal weapons possession.

Suge Knight Busted By Police In California

Former Death Row Records owner Suge Knight was reportedly stopped by police last night (January 5) after driving through a stop sign in California.

Despite the danger, Knight reportedly did not injure any pedestrians.

Suge Knight doesn't stop for stop signs -- stop signs stop for Suge Knight! Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that Suge was pulled over right around midnight last night after he failed to stop at a stop sign in Beverly Hills. Suge was given a ticket and, we're told, he was very cooperative. (TMZ)

Knight's name recently made headlines after being publicly taunted by West Coast rapper Game.

"It's 2010 and I said f*ck Suge!," Game freestyled during a performance. "Because I'm a motherf*cking animal/And they don't know that I'm a cannibal/Emcees I eat 'em, thick b*tches I beat 'em/I fry haters up just 'cause I don't need 'em/Where the f*ck we from, n*gga from Compton/Where the f*ck we from, we from Compton...Weezy, I made that n*gga a Blood, Jim Jones, I made that n*gga a Blood, Gucci [Mane], I made that n*gga a Blood, so when they throw it up, eveybody say what's up...Everybody in this b*tch know what Game 'bout/Suge took the same route...Let's vote, 2010, n*gga f*ck Death Row!" (WSHH)

Knight recently spoke on his views of the rap game.

"I'm gonna be doing some movies, gonna do some music but you know mainly I've been around my environment," he explained in an interview. "You know, going back to the stomping grounds that I never left, enjoying it is basically what I've been doing. You know, you got a lot new artists out there. I mean Lil Wayne, his stuff is always hot. Even Jeezy had a cut I liked this year. There's a lot of artists I feel aren't really out yet, you got Glasses Malone. Glasses is on his way, same thing with Nipsey Hussle. Nipsey's gonna do well, Glasses is gonna do extremely well. Jay Rock is gonna do well. More importantly, these top guns nobody knows about, I got some sh*t where it feels like it's back to the basics kinda how it is when you feel the music, it's not like so commercial." (Hip Hop Stan)

Known for controversy, Suge's "bad guy" image was recently questioned by former Death Row artist Crooked I.

"Suge taught me a lot," Crooked explained in an interview. "He sat me down with Russell Simmons. He sat me down with Lyor Cohen. He sat me down with LA Reid. He sat me down with the bosses who moved this game...All the bosses, they do it the same kinda way, it's just that they was intimidated by the dude...People get intimidated, I don't blame him for that, I blame the person who's intimidated. Why be intimidated? Okay motherf*cker, that's how you wanna come, this is me coming. I don't blame him, it's like, step up motherf*cker...The industry wants me to bad mouth Suge Knight, they want me to. I don't have sh*t to say bad really like that. I made money on Death Row, it launched me to where I'm at, when I walk into the offices at a record company they respect me because they know what I've been through." (Hip Hop Game)

Unreleased Michael Jackson Songs Leaked

An unreleased Michael Jackson song called "Another Day" has reportedly leaked online and is allegedly an unheard verse from his duet with Lenny Kravitz.

The track began to make its rounds on the Internet last night (January 3).

Much like 2Pac, Michael Jackson has no problem releasing new music, even though he's ... ya know, dead. An unreleased song called "Another Day" is making the rounds, an alleged duet with Lenny Kravitz. The verse Michael sings seems to be the same as from an older Kravitz song called "Storm." Kravitz gave an interview with Spinner shortly after Michael's death where he mentioned working with him on a song that hadn't been released. Kravitz called it "the most amazing experience I've had in the studio." (TMZ)

On the leaked verse, Jackson declares his love for an estranged person.

"My life, has taken me beyond the planets and the stars," Jackson sings, "and you're the only one that could make me this far/I'll be forever searching for your love...You're the one that makes me go, I can't make it another day/Your'e the fire that keeps me warm, I can't make it another day/How do I get through this storm/I can't make it another day without your love..." ("Another Day")

In a past interview, Kravitz reportedly suggested he has an unreleased track from Jackson.

"I got to work with Michael on a track that has not been released and it was the most amazing experience I've had in the studio. He was funny. Very funny and we laughed the whole time. I also saw what a beautiful father he was. He was a beautiful human being. I am deeply saddened this evening." (Zap 2 It)

The record marks Jackson's latest leaked track since last summer.

If "Another Day" proves to be legitimate, it'll be the second track from Jackson's vault of unreleased material to find its way to the streets. In July 2009, 24 seconds of a Jackson song called "A Place With No Name," a reinterpretation of America's 1971 hit "A Horse With No Name," leaked. (Rolling Stone)

Three 6 Talks Changes In Music

Three 6 Mafia's Juicy J has clarified his reason for altering the duo's music from typical hip-hop to a more universal sound with more pop and rock tracks.

According to J, moving past rap has allowed them to gain a larger following.

"We've done a few changes, we did a few changes because times change, people's ears change. 'Lolli Lolli,' that was really different for us but it sold over 2,000,000 digital downloads, it actually put us on an international level, we've been doing stuff overseas, we've been to Germany twice, we've been to Italy, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, we got a lot of other shows coming up overseas," J explained in an interview. "It put us on an international level but we still got our underground stuff, our underground CDs for our fan base, so it's really like we expanded. And we look at it like, it's like we get a check from the underground and get a check form the mainstream and the pop side to as well, we just trying to get money across the board." (Hip Hop Wired)

J recently said looking past hip-hop has helped them stay relevant.

"Yeah, man, I feel you've got to keep your head in everything," J explained in an interview. "You've got to do a little bit of this and a little bit of that. A hundred checks are better than one check. If you look in the mailbox and you have five or six checks in there, that looks delicious! If you look in there and you've only got one, that's cool, but I'm [also] trying to get money from everywhere across the board -- the movie money, the independent game, etc. We're trying to get it all! You've got to keep your ear to the street! Three 6 Mafia can do all different kinds of music and make it sound good. That's all that matters! We can accomplish anything we put our minds to." (Artist Direct)

Jay-Z recently described his willingness to sacrifice having a 12th number one album in order to make an experimental project.

"I've always said I believe in good music and bad music...I like music. The second Blueprint, the reason it was all over the place is because I like music so much. You have tracks with Lenny Kravitz then Sean Paul. Dr. Dre. It's all over the place because of my taste in music. I like music. My next album, which I'm working on now -- that's exclusive, no one knows that -- is gonna be the album that really -- it's not gonna be a number one album. That's where I'm at right now. I wanna make the most experimental album I ever made. But let's not deal with that now; I want to deal with The Blueprint 3." (MTV)

Cash Money Records' Baby also touched on Lil Wayne's ability to become successful in other genres of music.

"We still feel like we got a long way to go man," Baby said in an interview. "His music and his heights are unlimited. We do pop, rock, rap, everything, so when you catering to our nationalities, our songs, it's not gonna be just one urban record. You gotta do pop records, cross over records...They think [Rebirth] is rock, but it got a little heavy metal to it. He still Wayne, he still doing his thing on that motherf*cker..." (New Lil Wayne)

Drag On Reacts to DMX's MMA Fight

Ruff Ryders' Drag-On recently discussed the well-being of fellow crew member DMX and shared his reaction to learning of X previously trying his hand at mixed martial arts.

According to Drag, he had no idea X was making a move to the ring earlier this year.

"A UFC fight?!," Drag exclaimed when the above bout was mentioned. "[Laughs] I ain't even hear about that. Aww man, that's crazy though. [Laughs] But he good though; he chillin'. He in Arizona right now...He in the studio; he working. So I mean everything is good as far as with the dog. He gon' always go through his trials and tribulations, that's just X. People gotta realize, that's just him. That's just his life. It's been like that before he was on too. That's not changed. He actually did more time before he was a rapper. [But] he good." (Hip Hop DX)

Legal action has reportedly been placed against X since calling off the December 2009 match.

The promoters of an upcoming boxing match that was to have featured rapper DMX, claim that in addition to backing out of the fight at the last minute, the rapper has failed to return a deposit. Promoters also allege the DMX and his manager scammed them using a fake management company. Thunder Promotions officially filed the lawsuit on November 20th in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County Alabama. Thunder Promotions' lawsuit states that although DMX accepted a $6,000 deposit to fight, he backed out of the match when they refused to guarantee his safety or fix the fight in his favor. (All Hip Hop)

Speculation on a possible lawsuit began to circulate last month when the rapper was replaced by Coolio.

Thunder Productions tells TMZ they have signed Coolio to the upcoming celebrity boxing match scheduled to take place in Alabama next month. They tell us Coolio has been much easier to deal with and "he is going to take this seriously." X had previously agreed to the bout, but only on the condition he was guaranteed to win. (TMZ)

Earlier this month, Drag spoke about the delayed Ruff Ryders reunion.

"I was just with Sheek [Louch] last night," Drag-On told SOHH. "We were on the radio, just promoting our projects that we got coming out. Everybody's still cool, you know what I"m saying? It never was no beef, you know what I'm saying? We just all had a lot of things on our plate and we just have to fulfill those needs right now. But other than that, everything else is still kosher. X is always gonna be like my big brother in this game, like, so X was the one that really showed us off. So he's always gonna be my big brother in the game." (SOHH)

T.I. Already Back In The Studio

Former Atlantic Records music executive Kevin Liles has hinted at rapper T.I. making his way to the recording studio just days after being transferred to a halfway house.

Writing via Twitter before having his message deleted, Liles was reportedly speaking on T.I. making new music.

Music executive Kevin Liles recently tweeted about a close acquaintance of his going in the studio to do work after visiting family. Is he talking about T.I.? He did just get home so he would be visiting family and eager to get to recording. "My right hand went home to visit family & found his way to the studio. He said 'why wait for 2010, get it in now' Love the attitude!" (Global Grind)
Lawyer Steve Sadow said the rapper returned to his hometown, Atlanta, Georgia last week.

"He was released this morning from his place of incarceration in Arkansas," Sadow said in an interview. "As I understand it, he's on his way back to the Atlanta area. He has to report to a halfway house in Atlanta sometime this evening. And he will then spend somewhere between the next two or three months in a halfway house, ending his Buruea of Prison sentence. A halfway house is more along the lines of a residential dormitory. You live within this house that is broken into areas for living, and you are permitted to leave during the day for certain reasons of which would be employment, medical reasons, things of that nature, and you return to the halfway house in the evening. So it's a restriction on your liberty but it's a way for you to reenter into society and not be confined within a jail type institution 24-hours a day." (XXL Mag)

Based on a conversation blogger Sandra Rose had with Bow Wow associate and current Dismas Charities West inmate Bart Borders, Tip should have no problem fitting in.

Bart, who is out on work pass until 10:30 p.m. on weeknights and 11:30 p.m. on weekends, said the facility holds about 120 male inmates and 20 females. "But they have to stay on their side," said Bart. "The only time we get to interact with (the females) is around meal time." He said the halfway house has two TV rooms and two living rooms, and the food there isn't worth writing home about. "The food ain't worth nothing. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches," he said. "But T.I. has his own money, he can order out." Bart, who manages rapper T. Waters, a So So Def artist, said T.I. probably won't be able to leave on work release until after the New Year. But even then, he's not allowed to work for himself or for his family. So he can't work for Grand Hustle or any company he owns. "If I see him when I get there I'll tell him wherever he work at to make as least money as possible, because they getting 25% of his gross." (Sandra Rose)

Although the "King of the South" is expected to be released in a few months, he will still have commitments attached to his sentence.

Once Harris completes his time in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons in late March, he will still have to finish serving just under 500 hours of community service and about 23 days of home incarceration. (Access Atlanta)

Jay-Z Rumored to Take Beyonce's Last Name

Reports are circulating that mogul Jay-Z will take his wife Beyonce Knowles’ last name in an effort to maintain her family’s legacy.

The power couple, who wed in a private ceremony in April 2008, will exchange surnames. Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, will now be known as Shawn Knowles-Carter. Beyonce will keep Jay’s last name and remain Beyonce Knowles-Carter as listed on the wedding certificate.

According to an anonymous source, the move will ensure the Knowles name lives on, since Beyonce’s parents have no sons, and Beyonce sister Solange Knowles’ son Daniel Julez Smith, Jr carries his father’s last name.

“They want to keep Knowles because Beyonce’s parents didn’t have any sons and they’re keen to keep the name going strong, especially if they don’t produce any children themselves,” the source stated to the UK's Daily Star.

Hurricane Chris Discusses Ghost Writing

Southern rapper Hurricane Chris has revealed his side talent in ghost writing records for other rappers despite being an established emcee himself.

According to Chris, he is trying to make moves outside of the typical rap star career route.

A confident rapper, Chris feels as though he's primed to transition from entertainer to businessman. "I'm really in control of this Rap game, ya feel me? So I've been trying to get my game up on the business-side, ya feel me? I've got a record label that I'm coming out with, 51/50." Asked why now is the time to build an imprint, Chris proudly pointed to his track record. "I told Mike Jones to go and do 'Drop And Gimme 50,' I constantly went into the studio and made hits...I did a lot of writing, some writing for other people - I ain't gone say they names, but it's constantly been 'Hurricane Season.' Now you can keep your eyes locked on me." (Hip Hop DX)

Royce Da 5'9 recently spoke on writing hit records for Diddy.

"When I go in with Puff, I give him what he asks for," Royce revealed in an interview. "That's one thing he's never asked before [which is to dumb it down.] He's never came and said 'Yo, that's too lyrical.' If anything, it's 'Yo, put some more lines it it.' He's a fan of lyrics. He's a fan of lyrics, it's just the overall sound I think when people hear it, they have the impression that he wants to dumb everything down. I think he's just the opposite. I think he wants to figure out ways to combine both the worlds. The very very commercial 'I can sell this to anybody' world and he wants to maintain that lyrical integrity because he's from the streets. So I think he tries to combine 'em and I think he tries to find people that can put him in that lane. Because him just spitting it alone gives him another appeal. I see what he's doing and he normally is able to pull it off, I'm not in there all the time because I got my own sh*t that I'm dealing with but trust in me every time he calls I try to go and give him what he's looking for." (Ms Drama TV)
Earlier this year, Ludacris discussed ghost writing for Dr. Dre's Detox.

"It was for Dre," Luda confirmed in an interview about "O.G.'s Theme.". "I wrote it for Dre...It was supposed to be for Detox, but I don?t know since it got leaked. I don't know if it's gonna get used...I wrote a couple records and that was one of them." (Rap-Up)

Chris recently spoke about his rap skills.

"Hand for hand, foot for foot, when it comes to rapping, you put somebody in my face and whatever category you give us, whatever you tell us to flow about, you tell us to talk about each other, I'm gonna destroy 'em," Chris promised SOHH. "I'll destroy whoever you put in front of me. Your talent shines until it gets in the presence of mine. Understand that? You see a star in the sky and it looks real bright until you go out the next day and there's a bigger star next to that star -- D-Bo, D-Bo, D-Bo. I'm the D-Bo of the rap game. I'm the D-Bo of it, watch what I tell you." (SOHH)

T.I. Released to a Halfway House

Atlanta rapper T.I. was officially been released from a low-security federal prison in Forrest City, Arkansas yesterday (December 22).

The rapper, born Clifford Harris Jr., is expected to report to Dismas Charities Atlanta West correctional center tonight, where he will spend three months.

Que Breaks Silence on Day26

Former Day26 singer Que recently unveiled the reasons behind being kicked-out of Diddy's popular boy group and how he was asked to leave the team.

According to Que, he was informed via a letter about his status on the five-member team.

"I was so confused and lost because I never had an issue with Day26," he said in an interview. "We just had to fix our business. I have nothing bad to say about them. I just want to move forward because they sent me a letter saying they don't want to work with me...I only had the issue with management. I don't feel protected around them now. I don't feel safe. I don't feel like they're my brothers anymore. They kicked me out, This is my business and this is my life. I don't want to be kept in the dark. I want to be in control of my business. I never had a motive." (MTV)
Speculation began to grow when a video was released from Que late last week.

So Que (formerly) of Day 26 just put out this video explaining what went down. Kinda. He said him getting kicked out the group wasn't Diddy or Bad Boy's fault, but it was Screwface's-the group's manager reportedly hired by Willie. He didn't go into anymore detail, but basically said Day 26 doesn't have their business in order and it's not in his character to just not show up for Day 26 events. I guess that's what he's being accused of. (The YBF)
In the clip, Que details why he is no longer on Day26.

"I feel bad for my brothers because they don't get it," he explained in the clip. "And they making me seem like the bad guy. But no, MTV don't got control of this no more, I'm telling the world the truth, it's Screwface, it's not Puff. It was Screwface, it wasn't Bad Boy." (YouTube)
According to Day26's Willie, the group is now dealing solely with Atlantic Records.

"Bad Boy is always our family, but we're with Atlantic right now...we really want to get people focused on the artistry, on the music. I think a lot of people lost it with the entertainment of the show. So now, we really want to show people what we're all about, that we do our thing whether it's on stage, in the studio, writing and producing -- we do it all." (The Boom Box)

Kid Cudi in a Case of Mistaken Identity

Kid Cudi was pulled over at gunpoint by police in a case of mistaken identity in Los Angeles yesterday (December 21).

The rapper, who was in the city to play live dates having recently pulled out of Lady GaGa's 'Monster Ball Tour', had been doing a photoshoot with NME outside the Joyrich store on Melrose Avenue.

Shortly after leaving the store with his entourage in two SUVs and a Jeep, the rapper was pulled over by an officer on Fairfax Avenue.

Two police cars cordoned off the road while a further three pulled up next to Cudi's vehicles. Passengers in the cars were then ordered out with their hands on their heads, before being made to kneel on the ground where they were handcuffed. It was only then that Los Angeles Police Department officers realised it was a case of mistaken identity.

After the passengers had been released, the officer in charge explained that a resident in the vicinity of the shop had mistakenly identified the party as being involved in a burglary, before allowing Cudi's entourage to go on its way.

Kid Cudi later told NME that he wasn't sure what had happened.

"Who knows, really, the story changed a bunch," he said. "I'm just happy to be back. I'm a free man! For that moment I was not free. I was in handcuffs. It did not feel very comfortable."

He added that he did not begrudge the police for the error: "We're in LA, it's a rowdy place in the United States, you know? And a lot of shit goes down. And these cops have to use force. So it's, like, I understand that they were doing their job. I just wish we weren't in that place at that time."

Date Set For The Release of TM 103

The release date for Young Jeezy's upcoming Thug Motivation 103 has reportedly landed online showing it projected to drop in early 2010.

According to reports, the new album will be released in February.

Word is this came from the back of a ticket for an All-American High School football game that will be held on January 2nd which Jeezy is scheduled to perform at half-time. "Jeezy TM103 in stores February 9th This ticket is a revocable license, which may be withdrawn, and admission refused anytime upon refunding the printed purchase price." (You Heard That New)
Last August, Jeezy updated fans on the record's status.

"I have some new producers I'm going to introduce to the world," Jeezy promised. "I like to set trends. I'm going to keep those names in the bag. I want it to be a big deal when you first hear them. There will be a few of the producers I worked from Thug Motivation 101 and The Recession such as Shawty Redd and Midnight Black. I'm just working, man. I'm not really picky when it comes to the production. I just like good music...I have the studio bus and the whole nine. I was already working on it, so I was where I wanted to be on the new album before I left. I recorded most of it at the crib in Atlanta. I'm just putting the icing on the cake, now. I'm going to do the rest on the road and just knock it out. The album will be out sooner than later...I'm going to take my time. That's what the label people tell me. "Yo, hurry up, but take your time, because we want that sh*t to be right.' Soon as my stuff jump off the stove I'm going to put it in the streets." (The Boom Box)
He previously stressed the importance of not rushing its release.

"I'm taking my time this time," he said in an interview. "I know where I really wanna go. This is my fourth time over. I did it three times -- I'm gonna do it again...No matter what they think, I go harder to be an example for my homies and everybody around me. I'm trying to make cats better. So if you feel the rapping part is that serious to you, then you go with that. When you go with motivational speaking, you don't want it to rhyme -- you want it to make sense. If he sounds like he's rhyming, it sounds like a jingle -- like he's trying to sell you a turkey burger or something...I got a joint called 'I Got This.' Then there's 'Suicide Music.' I don't wanna give it all up, because you'll probably figure out where I'm going." (MTV)
The "Snowman" announced Kanye West's involvement on the project last summer.

"Mixtapes, you know, I got a few coming out but I'm really more focused on this album," Jeezy said in an interview last month. "I wanna change the way people think about stuff so I'm focused this album. The mixtapes, that's gonna do what it do, but I want the album to be like, when you get it, 'Ah, that's crazy.' I'm about 75 percent [done.] I wanna work with a couple more people and that's about it. Kanye did about maybe six, seven joints on there." (Hip Hollywood)

Beanie Sigel Involved In Car Accident

State Property's Beanie Sigel was reportedly involved in a near-fatal car accident last night (December 19).

Details on the incident are still developing as of now.

Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel was injured in a car accident last night, reps say. Representatives for Sigel maintain a large tractor trailer truck ran his vehicle off the road. Sigel was not the driver of the car and sustained injuries. The full breadth of those injuries is unknown, as is the exact location of the accident. (All Hip Hop)
Beanie has kept busy as of late by making an alliance with 50 Cent and calling out his former Roc-A-Fella associates like Jay-Z and Memphis Bleek.

"A lot of Jay-Z fans are my fans too," Beans explained in an interview. "At the end of the days, [Memphis] Bleek's fake too. F*ck outta here. I ain't trying to hear that. Bleek got the same characteristics, man...Lil Wayne professed the 'Greatest Rapper Alive' [title] and was getting the momentum. Lil Wayne can rap, Lil Wayne can spit, in my point of view. I like Lil Wayne, he should have kept moving with it and then Jay come and tell Lil Wayne he gonna pass the paton to him [then] Lil Wayne falls back." (G-Unit Radio)
Bleek later responded to these comments from Sigel.

"That's my n*gga," Bleek said in an interview. "I don't feel no ways [different] as I felt from when he signed to us back in '99. I feel the same way today. That's my n*gga. And that's it. He can say what he wanna say. Him and I know the truth. He know what's real, and that's just it. It's all rap sh*t. Some people do things that you can look at and be like, 'Yo, why?,' but at the end of the day you just have to be in they mind frame and figure out - Try to understand what they thinking at that point in time. But like I say, he never stole from me, he never did nothing physically to me, none of my peoples, none of my family. That's still my brother...I just seen him at the Powerhouse show. Like two days before all of that sh*t popped off, we just had a ill conversation at Powerhouse. It was me, him, all his n*ggas there, my n*ggas, we was kickin' it, choppin' it up and nothing ever was said..." (Hip Hop DX)
The beef has also caught the attention of Def Jam's Fabolous.

"Nah, not really [I would not do a diss] because that's not my beef. I don't have a problem with Beanie, actually, you know what I'm saying, I'm cool with Beanie too. The same circle Jay was, Beanie was there too. So we all had, [well], I'm not as close, close to Beanie as I am with Jay, but I wouldn't. That's not my beef. Their thing is a little more personal, I mean. Everybody knows Jay and Beans, at one point, were hand and hand. Like, that's not my beef, I wouldn't even jump in there." (Jenny Boom Boom TV)

Nas Speaks On Recent Chicago Violence

Nas has been one of the few celebs to step up and speak out against the violence taking place on the streets of Chicago (and many other urban areas). He penned an Open Letter to Young Warriors after the video taped beating death of Derrion Albert hit the Internet. Over the weekend, Nas hit the CNN airwaves to talk about the deadly street violence and what (if any) role music plays in the healing process.
